Amazing, romantic hotel We had a lovely time at the hotel. They were very accommodating to all our requests. Our room was immaculate & very comfortable. The bathroom’s amenities included 1802 fabulous products. The hotel reminded me of Williamsburg, Virginia. It was built in 1820. The hosts were great. Breakfast was gourmet. It is included with your reservation. Sunday brunch was not included but my husband had Eggs Benedict & I had the omelette of the day that featured veggies, fresh mozzarella cheese, fresh tomatoes, asparagus with special local raisin & sprouts bread. No extra charge for this. Coffee & choice of juice are also included. You can eat in the dining room or in their magnificent gardens. Saturday night , we had 7pm reservations for dinner in their beautiful dining room. Be sure to make reservations for dinner as soon as you make your room reservation. The ambiance is amazing. My husband had pork schnitzel with sprazele & I had poutine- which brought back memories of Ireland. We shared a salad of fresh local greens. Everything served is from local organic farms. The restaurant is very popular with locals. This hotel was on my bucket list for many years. It was comfortable, immaculate & romantic for us. Hopefully, we will return in the near future.

A spontaneous and spectacular dinner My mother and I decided to take a spontaneous day trip to Beekman 1802 for shopping and The American Hotel for dinner in Sharon Springs. We drove from Albany, NY for this special treat. We both had a delicious meal complete with a cool historical dining vibe and wonderful service. To start, we had the seafood appetizer, and it was fresh and amazing. My mother had the coconut shrimp, and I had the steak tips which were scrumptious . We capped off our dinner with the coconut layer cake which was moist and stellar. We had refreshing Saratoga sparking waters and I had a unique Elderberry and gin drink. Again, the food was delicious and the overall dining experience was exceptional. Kelly is a great server who is cheery and wonderful. Garth, the owner was really friendly and interesting as well. We will return to this amazing restaurant~ a hidden gem!

Fantastic Sunday Brunch !! The American Hotel is a charming inn in Sharon Springs , NY. They are open for dinner Thurs through Sunday, and for brunch on Sunday morning. The food and service are fantastic ! I have never had a bad meal here ( and I have had many) and the wait staff is warm, welcoming and competent. The owners, Doug and Garth are usually on site, and are wonderful hosts. The general manager, Austin, keeps everything moving smoothly while making everyone feel happy to be there. Today our party of 4 adults and 3 children had a delicious brunch on the beautiful patio. We each had an entree of our choice and ordered a few for the table to share. Everything was great ! The American Hotel is an oasis !

Charming Hotel in the Middle of Nowhere We were looking for a break in the middle of a road trip. We’d always wanted to explore the area near Cooperstown. The American Hotel popped up on Google, and we booked. The American is a beautifully restored boutique hotel, circa 1847. It boasts lovely gardens, beautifully decorated rooms, a fantastic dining room (A delicious breakfast is included in the room rate. Be sure to stay for dinner!) You can sit on a rocking chair on the porch and watch the world go slowly by or stroll along Main Street to learn about the history of Sharon Springs as a once famous health spa. There are some cute gift shops and the very elegant “mother house” of the famous Beekman 1802 goat milk soap brand. The friendly proprietors of the American Hotel and the shopkeepers are going to extraordinary lengths to ensure the health and safety of their visitors during this pandemic period. Because the nearby Glimmerglass Opera and the Baseball Hall of Fame are closed this summer, there were not many people visiting Sharon Springs. If you need a break from Quarantining, or a nice place to relax, we highly recommend the American Hotel.

Thank you Garth and Doug Wow! What a fantastic stay, especially on a very snowy trip. Some Cornell friends of ours recommended The American Hotel for a layover on a drive from our home in Southeastern Connecticut to Colgate for a book signing. And they were right. We actually extended our stay from 1 to 2 days with the knowledge that 9 to 12 inches of snow were expected during the trip. The Inn was so cozy, warm, and historical. My wife and I expected to see George Washington around every corner. And the owners, Doug and Garth—very cordial and kind. A young couple driving through town at the height of the storm was welcomed in by Doug with open arms. The two of them have also done such a great job restoring the structure. They had a book with before and after photos of the building. It’s just amazing what they’ve accomplished. And Austin, the general manager—thank you Austin. The rooms and dining were perfection. And the town, although tiny, also has abundant history. Doug is actually Mayor! We got into the whole Beekman Brothers 1802 story with the owners’ shop directly across the street from the Hotel. Our two days at The American and Sharon Springs were uplifting and a total breath of fresh air in times that can be downright depressing. We’ll be back. Bob and Caren L Niantic, Connecticut

Best Hospitality We were in the Sharon Springs area for a long weekend in February 2020 and spent a night here. Very cute and cozy rooms and the restaurant is AMAZING! I had one of the best dinners of my life here - the tenderloins with lobster. Then we had a fantastic breakfast, which came with our room. Order the corn pancake stack for sure! Throughout our stay we interacted with the owner, Doug, who was the most helpful and gracious host I’ve ever had. Our 20 min conversation upon checking out was the best part of our trip. Thank you!

We’ll be back! Comfortable, warm, inviting hotel staffed and run by extraordinary folks. We walked in and immediately felt at home. A small bar with a copper top, antique-filled sitting area, and comfy rooms, all speak relaxation. The owners did a remarkable job bringing this hotel back to life. So go and enjoy it! We did.

Glad I saw sign for Sharon Springs Was heading for Fayetteville, NY in order to visit the Stickley Museum the next day. Saw a sign for Sharon Springs which I had read about in Preservation Magazine so stopped at the American Hotel and was fortunate to find there was one room left. Had a great meal in the dining room with a wonderful Mosel wine. Didn't hear a sound all night. Unlike my stay just before at the Hampton Inn in Waterbury, CT for which I wrote a review titled: "On a Scale from 1-10: -100". Breakfast next day had the biggest blueberries and strawberries I've ever seen. Have already recommended the Hotel to my brothers for their Union College reunions and to friends in Niagara on the Lake who have Loyalist ancestors.

Pure Joy Friends were staying in Cooperstown and we decided to take a drive and have brunch at the American Hotel. Our greeting was warm and welcoming. We has drinks at the bar before we ate and the bartender was friendly and engaging. Our waitress was extremely friendly but not intrusive like they are in California. She was extremely helpful and we shared a laugh or two. We settled in and were enjoying our lunch, and expecting average / traditional American fare. We were in for a surprise. The food was better than we ever imagined! Beautifully plated, ore original than we imagined and extremely tasteful! Everyone in the dining room was enjoying their food as well and there was lively conversation all around. Not one person was having a bad time, and no one wanted to leave. The owners make you feel so welcome! We will definitely be back! Thank you American Hotel for a great lunch!
