Outstanding Restaurant in lovely village We have had two celebratory dinners at the American Hotel Restaurant. Both were outstanding. The crab cakes are the best I’ve had anywhere. The fried green tomatoes and collard greens are excellent, with just the right amount of spice! We also enjoyed very attentive service, from the waitstaff to one of the owners stopping by to check on everything. I like that they have food at a variety of price points, from sandwiches to steak.Posted on mkfisher66November 13, 2025. A very pleasant meal We went just for dinner. We used to go when it was under the direction of the former owners so we were trying to keep an open mind and not compare it to “the way it used to be”. The menu is limited but of the items we tried we were not disappointed. There was a little something for everyone. All of our entrees were cooked to perfection and nicely seasoned. The portions were just right, leaving just enough room for coffee and dessert. We will be back! Most enjoyable!Posted on Bumble’s momNovember 2, 2025. Wonderful Small Town Experience! We stayed at this quaint hotel during our visit to Cooperstown for the Hall of Fame Weekend. Our experience was really enjoyable. Michael Palaia and Marco Braeutigam have working hard to put together a quality experience at this renovated inn which is on the National Register of Historic Places and thus far the results are fantastic! The rooms are small but comfortable with individual bathrooms and room appropriate refrigerators stocked with water and small boxes of local chocolate. The bathrooms also featured Beekman bath products from the famous local producer with a store across the street. The sit-down breakfast each morning was delicious and featured such items as ricotta pancakes with blueberry compote, scrambled eggs with various veggies and cheese, and French toast. All items could be ordered with bacon or sausage too! They also recently began their dinner service and we enjoyed a delicious and reasonably priced dinner also served in the lovely and comfortable hotel dining room. We did not have time to sit on their vast porch or in the beautiful garden but hopefully next time we will allow time to linger and enjoy this beautiful property. The staff (Michael, Linda, Veronica, etc.) are wonderful and go out of the way to make you feel at home. We eagerly look forward to our return!Posted on D CAugust 11, 2025. Wonderful, cozy getaway with great restaurant! My elderly mother, young daughter and I stayed in room 3. The room is perfect for two people. (My daughter was a last minute addition.) We had a fantastic stay and can't rave enough about how kind, responsive and generous the owners and staff were. The hotel itself is charming -- thoughtfully decorated and cozy. The lobby bar and lounge create a social atmosphere if you don't want to stay holed up in your room. The restaurant is excellent -- we enjoyed a delicious dinner, cocktail, and the included breakfast is top-notch. It has ample outdoor space for socializing, strolling, or reading a good book. There are a few shops right across the street that you can browse. Highly recommend for a romantic getaway, trip with your favorite person, or a solo retreat.Posted on MellowYazNYAugust 11, 2025. Awesome food! The American hotel has reopened with new owners and a wonderful updated menu. The menu is going to be expanding but they have something for everyone. The service is excellent, and the restaurant can best be described as classy. Wonderful decor! Wonderful servers and owners! We did not use the hotel rooms and I have seen photos and they look lovely. A terrific new restaurant for the area that was greatly needed!Posted on Navigate55582185992August 5, 2025. New owners doing an AMAZING job! We went for dinner. They are still in their soft opening phase but my goodness! The food was AMAZING! The owner was absolutely wonderful. The prior owners were a very tough act to follow BUT kudos The new owners are just as welcoming and the food will knock your socks off. Menu has a southern flair. I had crab cakes that were pure crab and SO much flavor! So happy the American Hotel is continuing its excellencePosted on Nicole MJuly 31, 2025. Unique and Inclusive Experience There were 3 generations of us ladies staying at the American Hotel. We had the room on the 1st floor, so that we could have access to the beautiful front porch. We love being outdoors, and the rocking chairs where perfect. Also, in the backyard of the hotel is a large patio area and lawn with seating. Even at night we found Lightening Bugs, so incredible! Our room was nice, had a small refrigerator and the bathroom had everything we needed. Even in June, it was a little cool, so waking up in the morning and coming out to the common area with the wood burning stove going was awesome! Breakfast was around 8am, and we absolutely loved the menu selections. Also, a huge plus was Linda our server and John in the kitchen. Linda was very welcoming and attentive. John really knows how to make a fabulous breakfast (I even ate the vegan breakfast sausage). Our experience at the hotel was like visiting family and not staying at a random hotel. We stayed for 3 nights, and when it came time to leave, we were very sad. Michael was a great host; he is really putting his heart into the hotel. Good news, we are coming back again in July, we simply cannot stay away. We are taking every opportunity to stay at the American Hotel. Also heard they are now going to offer other food and beverage options besides their fantastic breakfast. Anyone coming to this beautiful area, MUST spend the evening or more at the hotel, you will not be disappointed.Posted on Jennifer PJuly 10, 2025. Just go!!!! :) The owner was incredibly kind, friendly and welcoming! He stayed until we arrived and showed us around and gave us some backstreet on the area and the building itself. Such a wonderful, interesting little area! Perfect place to stay. The food is absolutely scrumptious! John and Linda were wonderful to talk to and get to know while we were there! Highly recommend and will definitely be booking a room here next time we're in the area. Amazing stay!Posted on Sarah RMay 29, 2025. Beautiful Hotel in a quaint little town I can’t express what a wonderful hotel this is, our host, Garth made us feel right at home. The rooms are cozy, very clean and comfortable and the made to order, home cooked breakfast was fantastic. Thank you for a very enjoyable stay.Posted on barbarak0622April 27, 2024.
